Cutting-edge specialties

The Ideon companies’ fields of expertise - IT, telecom, cleantech and life science - reflect the strength of several Lund University faculties in combination with spin-offs from industry. 

The dominating sector among Ideon’s wealth of companies was initially life science – that is to say, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical technology and functional food. In 1999, information technology became the strongest sector and, in combination with telecom, now represents about 40 per cent of the Ideon companies. Nanotechnology and cleantech – companies developing in the areas of environmental and energy technology – are fields that are gaining ground rapidly at present.

Globally unique telecom cluster
There is in the area a globally unique concentration of telecom expertise – both at Lund University and in companies with Ericsson and Sony Ericsson at the forefront, as well as many smaller companies that are world leaders in all kinds of areas from image processing and camera technology to mobile applications.
